Crystal's point of view
Ike, Tay, and Zac invited Katie, Penny, and me to L.A. for the weekend before Valentines Day. It's going
to be a short visit because we all had to come after school was out on Friday and we have to leave on Sunday
afternoon. But at least we get to see them.
We decided to go to the Farmer's Market. Once there, we went our separate ways and will meet up later.
Tay and I are walking around talking. We come across a woman playing on a guitar and singing. People
are standing around watching and listening. We stop. She is very good. Taylor listens very intently, not
paying attention to anything but the music. He really has a love for all things musical, a true musician. During
the song she looks up and sees Tay. She recognizes him but doesn't stop. She does look a little nervous now
though. After she is done Tay talks to her for a few minutes. Then we continue on.
"She was very good." I say.
"Yes she was." Tay says.
"You really love music don't you?" I say.
"Yes I do." He says. "But you know it runs in the family."
"Yeah I know." I say. "It runs in my family too. But for some reason I never had as much talent as they do."
"Really?" Tay says.
"Yes. My Grandfather was in a local band when he was young. He played piano and sang. My Grandma plays
piano. My Mom plays piano and sang in the choir in school and church. My Dad and my Uncles played guitar,
piano, and, sang in local bands, and at school and church. Their parents both play instruments and sing. I
heard all kinds of music growing up. But I never got in to it for some reason." I say.
"Oh" Tay says. "You don't have to."
"Thanks." I say.
"How did your Mom get started in music management?"
"Actually, she wanted to be a librarian. But her roommate in college had a brother who was in the same
local band my Uncle was in. So she went to Boston to hear them play. When they got there everything was very
disorganized, which my Mom hates, so she took control and started to tell people what to do. She didn't have
any real experience but she had been in enough plays etc. to know what to do. Mr. Scott was so impressed
that he offered her a job and to pay for her to get her masters. At first she didn't want to but Mr. Scott can
be very persuasive and talked her in to it."
"How did your parents meet.?" Tay asks me.
"Well, my Dad was in another local band with another one of my Uncles that Mr. Scott also managed.
She helped them out and they fell in love. The band disbanded a couple of years later and Dad went in to
real estate which was his other love besides music. They also got married and had me. They started to
grow apart though and got a divorce 3 years ago. Last night on the way to the airport Mom and Justin told me
they are engaged and will get married in August. But I am ok with that now. I'm happy for them"
"Oh, I see. I'm glad you're ok with it. I think they will be happy." Tay says.
"Thanks." I ask. "How's the new album coming?"
"Fine. We also have taken up surfing and mountain climbing. Plus there's always homework for Zac and
me. Sometimes we just need a break from recording or we would kill each other." Tay says.
"Yeah, I can just imagine the headline." I say and laugh.
"Me too." Tay says. "We better go meet the others."
"Ok. Thanks for letting me talk Tay. I really appreciate it." I say.
"You're welcome. Anytime." Tay says and gives me a hug. We walk off to go meet the others.
