Katie's point of view
I got back to Ann Arbor ok. Now on to finals. I am taking a much needed break from studying
by eating dinner in the Cafeteria.
Chris stops by my table.
"I probably shouldn't be asking you this because of Ike and all but I as wondering if you would
go to the play and then to the cast party with me tomorrow night? It would be just as friends. I will be one
of only a few that doesn't bring someone and there's this girl in the cast that wants to go out with me but I
don't want to go out with her. If you don't want to go I'll understand but it would really help me out if you
did." he says.
The University of Michigan is doing "Sweeny Todd" and Chris has a big part. Not bad for a Freshman but
he is a good actor. I think he will make it in Hollywood some day. I sigh silently and then make a mental note
to find him a girlfriend.
"Ok, I'll go but just as friends right?" I ask.
"Right. Just as friends, I promise. Thank you so much." He says.
"You're welcome. This girl who likes you must me really bad." I say.
He rolls his eyes and says "You'll find out tomorrow how bad."
I laugh and say "Ok, see you tomorrow. Break a leg."
"Thanks. See you tomorrow." He says and leaves.
Why did I just do that? Well, I need to get my mind off finals tomorrow, the plays are free to U of M
students, it's a good story, Chris is a great actor, and it would help him out if I go so I am. I go back to my
room for more studying.
I loved the play. It did get my mind off of studying for awhile. Chris was really good. We went to the cast
party and I had fun. I met the rest of the cast including the girl that likes Chris. I can understand why he
doesn't want to go out with her. They don't have much in common, she clings to him like crazy glue (except
when I was close by), and she was kind of scary. Hopefully my being there turn her off of him.
After about an hour Chris and I walk back to my dorm.
"Thanks again for coming. I really appreciate it." He says.
"You're welcome. I had a good time. It also got my mind off of studying for awhile. You were right
about your admirer. She was interesting. I hope she stays away from you from now on." I say.
He laughs and says "Me too. See you later" Then he turns around to walk away. He looks sad. I know he
wants to be more than friends.
"Chris wait" I say. He turns around. "I'm sorry that we can't be more than friends but I really do love
Ike."
"That's ok. I understand." he says.
"You're a great guy. Any woman should be glad to have you for a girlfriend. Your last girlfriend
doesn't know what she's missing. I know it's hard for you right now but I'm sure you'll find someone
sometime. If you need to talk I'm always willing to lend an ear."
He smiles and says "Thanks."
"Good luck with finals and have a great vacation." I say.
"Thanks. You too." He says. Then he walks away.
I go up to my room and go to bed. I feel sorry for Chris. I've got to find him a girlfriend!
